The incident occurred in Greenwich on Tuesday, Feb. 27, and concerned Greenwich High School.
Capt. John Slusarz of the Greenwich Police said the department became aware of the posting that Greenwich High School students "may be" in possession of a gun.
"This posting caused grave concern amongst the community," Slusarz said.
An investigation by the Police Department was immediately conducted and it was deemed that the allegation was not true. Currently, there is no threat to the Greenwich High School or the community, Slusarz added.
"The police department and the Board of Education take these types of complaints very seriously," Slusarz said. "In the event of a threat to any of our schools, students, or staff the Police Department should be contacted directly and immediately."
